Case Study – How Promotional Products Boosted Our Social Media Engagement

Promotional products can help improve any marketing campaign, but they are still under-utilised by many Marketers in the Digital era. The team decided to put this theory to the test ourselves and prove the effectiveness of this key marketing tool in Social Media campaigns.


We expect that the inclusion of promotional products in a Facebook campaign will increase the engagement received vs. the same campaign without the offer of promotional products.


The campaign we chose to use was the popular ‘Caption This’, where you present an unusual image and invite your Facebook community to provide an interesting caption for the image. We presented a control where we posted a ‘Caption This’ post simply asking the community to offer up ideas and the post was  boosted by £5 for the duration of 1 day.

Results were measured and then we posted a different image asking the community the same, to provide a caption. However, this time, they had the chance to win a gift bag filled with our promotional products. This post was boosted by £5 for 1 day also, and targeted to the same audience.

Once we introduced the promotional products to the same style of post, we saw dramatic increase in a number of areas:

  1. Reach – 877.27% increase
  2. Comments – 1500% increase
  3. Post Clicks – 3500% increase

Without the inclusion of promotional products, the initial post received little or no engagement from our Facebook community.
